Colin Currie Group
In 2006 the BBC Proms asked me to curate a late-night event to celebrate the music of Steve Reich, then in his 70th birthday year. This presented an excellent opportunity to assemble a remarkable group of young and innovative percussionists, all of whom share a passion for this music, its performance and its future. In the case of the work "Drumming", where a very unusual set of specialist skills are called on, it was vital to find players ready to commit to both the adventure and the demands of this music. Keen to continue our successful debut at the Proms, various performances in the UK have ensued, and to the consolidation of this ensemble into what is now The Colin Currie Group.
