CALL: Workshop – Performative works for accordion with Andreas Borregaard

Workshop – Performative works for accordion with Andreas Borregaard

Composers’ Day 2025: Saturday 1st November 10am-4pm

The soundfestival’s annual Composers’ Day will take place on Saturday 1st November in central Aberdeen and will explore theatrical and performative potential of new music with three highly experienced and renowned practitioners: a composer (Laura Bowler), a performer (Danish accordionist, Andreas Borregaard) and a director (Sam Redway).

As part of the day, Andreas Borregard will lead a workshop on performative works for accordion. Andreas will be working with internationally renowned new music theatre and opera maker Sam Redway (The Girl With The Hurricane Brain - Copenhagen Opera Festival, Sad Album - Musica, Dangerous Matter - RNCM, The Game - Tête-á-Tête, Pierrot Deconstructed - sound) who wrote and directed Andreas's recent Laura Bowler commission Power Play.

We are inviting composers to submit short performative works or extracts for accordion, two to three of which will be selected by Andreas as material for the workshop. During the workshop, composers will be able to hear extracts of their pieces live and receive feedback and recommended routes for improving technical/artistic skills from both Andreas and Sam. This is a unique opportunity to have your works explored from the theatrical perspective as well as the musical one, so open up those imaginations and take some musical risks! The workshop will be open to members of the public in addition to the other Composers' Day participants.

Scope

  • Your piece/extract must be for accordion and incorporate theatrical elements for the performer.
  • Your piece should be no longer than three minutes in duration.
  • You can write something new or send in an unperformed work from your existing repertoire.
