This year’s Composers’ Day will explore theatrical and performative potential of new music with three highly experienced and renowned practitioners: a composer, a performer and a director.
Danish accordion maestro Andreas Borregaard is recognised as one of the world’s most exciting young accordionists. Through an extensive career as soloist and chamber musician he communicates the accordion’s fascinating qualities and palette of expressions to a wide audience. He collaborates with composers from all over Europe and is actively influencing the development of the instrument’s use and repertoire.
Laura Bowler, described as “a triple threat composer-performer provocatrice”, is an award-winning composer, vocalist and artistic director specialising in theatre, multidisciplinary work and opera. She has been commissioned across the globe by ensembles and orchestras including the BBC Symphony Orchestra, ROH2, Opera Holland Park, The Opera Group, Manchester Camerata, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Quatuor Bozzini (Canada), Ensemble Phace (Austria), Ensemble Linea (France), Omega Ensemble (Australia) and others.
Sam Redway is an internationally renowned new music theatre and opera maker who wrote and directed Andreas's recent Laura Bowler commission Power Play. Other work includes The Girl With The Hurricane Brain - Copenhagen Opera Festival, Sad Album - Musica, Dangerous Matter - RNCM, The Game - Tête-á-Tête, Pierrot Deconstructed – Red Note Ensemble @ soundfestival.
