Christian Wilson and Roger B. Williams lead a discussion on the role of the organ in new and avant garde music. Examples from their recitals today will be featured in addition to Ligeti's iconic, ground-breaking work, Volumina.
The interface of pipe organ and electronic and acousmatic music will be discussed, as will the practicalities of new notational requirements.
The discussion will address the challenges of both performer and listener, when facing ever-expanding aural and aesthetic experiences. Each performer will lead with a short statement and after which free discussion is welcomed.
