Harps: Alison Bell, Alan Carr, Lu McLintock

Cello: Ian Sumner, Linda Cunningham

Voices: Marjorie Gourlay, Sarah McKay

The Aberdeen Harp Project is an initiative to commission new music for lever harp, which came about following discussions around the lack of available new music for lever harp players of intermediate standard.

This concert will feature the first three pieces commissioned. Two of these, Dulax, composed by Pete Stollery and A Rose Garden, composed by Turkish harpist and composer Şirin Pancaroğlu and Bora Uymaz, were performed in a concert at Glenbuchat Hall as part of sound festival on November 2nd 2014. The third, Croick composed by leading harpist Ruth Wall, will receive its first performance at this concert, alongside a companion piece, Grummore, for cello and harp, also about The Clearances, composed by Ian Sumner. A new piece composed for the ensemble by Lu McLintock, Make Mine A Double, combines cello, harps and voices. Completing the programme is a first performance on harps of Hymni by Icelandic composer, Snorri Sigfús Birgisson. In total, three world premieres, one first complete performance of an arrangement, and one first performance on harp!

Through this concert, The Aberdeen Harp Project hope to inspire others to become involved in commissioning new music and all proceeds from this concert will be used to commission a new work. By purchasing a ticket, you will have contributed to bringing a new piece of music into the world.

If you are interested in financially supporting composers to create new work, please take a look at the soundbytes scheme run by sound. Individuals (or groups of people) can support the commissioning of new work by purchasing a soundbyte from as little as £10 per month for one year. You can find out more information on soundbytes here.
