SoundStreams Young Composers Project

What is SoundStreams Young Composers Project?

This is an exciting and rare opportunity for young people in the North of Scotland to work with the guidance of some of Scotland’s leading musicians and professional composer David Fennessy to create your own original piece of music. You will also receive a recording of your piece.

Who is it for?

Young composers/musicians studying 4th year Standard Grade, Higher or Advanced Higher Music. As this course is running at the end of the school year we will accept applications from Advanced Higher Music Students who have completed their studies. If you are taking Higher or Advanced Higher music you can use this course to make a start on your portfolio. Or you can just come and write a piece because you feel like it!

We are looking for people with potential and commitment, who are enthusiastic about creating their own, original music and keen to try out new ideas.

When is it?

The course takes place between Friday 28th June & Monday 1st July 2013 with an introductory workshop on Sunday 16th June. There will be an informal concert at 6pm on Monday 1st July 2013.

What does it cost?

The whole course costs £40. We can provide drinks in breaks but not lunch. We can waive the fee for anyone for whom this is too expensive – you are welcome to contact us to discuss this.

Who is leading the course?

The project will be led by professional composer David Fennesy and professional musicians from the Scottish Flute Trio with Joanna Nicholson, Bass Clarinettist. There will be additional support from Chandra Chapman who is a final year student from the University of Aberdeen’s music department.

All of the musicians leading the course are experienced helping young composers to write their own music and they’re all really good fun to work with!
