Matthew is a composer originally from Northern Ireland currently based in Glasgow, Scotland. His interest lies in the exploration of acoustic and electronic domains. He does this through combining both and exploring them individually in different pieces while allowing techniques from both to influence his overall practice.
Common themes through his music are aural phenomena such as beating effects in complex sounds, the use of implied space within a room and the seeping in of childhood listening such as rock music. When using live electronics he is careful to give them a distinct personality in order for them to be an integral part of the ensemble which the piece would be incomplete without.
Along with concert works he has begun to collaborate with visual artists recently creating a new piece based on Andrew Cooke’s practice commissioned by R-Space Gallery in Lisburn.
Matthew is a founding member and director of Glasgow based electro acoustic ensemble Edit-Point who perform music for tape, instruments and live electronics.
Copies of Matthew’s scores and recordings are held at the Contemporary Music Centre in Dublin.
