Kate Halsall is a pianist developing and commissioning new music for a variety of projects.  Recent work includes Galvanize for Hack The Barbican; Hear the City, a music app design residency with Stromatolite; Miniaturised Concertos | Maché, an album of new works for piano duo, electronics and ensemble, released May 2016. She has performed widely in the UK and internationally including for Aldeburgh Music, The Piano- Glasgow City of Music, Ockham’s Razor (Not Until We Are Lost) with music by Graham Fitkin, hcmf// with Chimera Ensemble, Sonorities, Michael Clark Dance Company (Oh My Goddess), Tête à Tête Opera Festival, Colourscape, SBC Imagine Children’s Festival, Multiple Piano Day BBC Proms, Ether Festival, Marte Festival Malaga, IUC Rome, Festival of Dimitria Thessaloniki, Montclair University New Jersey, Colorado College, Festival de la Sainte Baume Provence, Timezones Festival Italy, The Banff Centre Canada, Onassis Cultural Centre Athens.


Kate has worked with a number of ensembles including Andrew Poppy’s Sustaining Ensemble, piano duo duoDorT, as pianist/director in Piano Circus (02-12). Current ensembles include electro-acoustic Galvanize Ensemble; trio of voice/percussion/keys with Melanie Pappenheim and Genevieve Wilkins; Bell Halsall duo (OCM Boom residency); SoundKarD with Sarah Dacey and composer Duncan MacLeod; Halsall Miyachi piano duo. Performances have included Frontiers Festival, Acoustic Ecology Symposium, Dartington Hall, Oxford Contemporary Music, Multiple Piano Day BBC Proms, LIFEM, John Cage Uncaged (Musicircus, Barbican), Multiplier Series, Cutting Edge, iF Festival, Cheltenham Contemporary Concerts, sound festival, Sound Source (Plundering Žižek); residencies and festivals internationally including Montclair University New Jersey, Colorado College, The Banff Centre Canada (Miniaturised Concertos), ICT + Art NEM Summit Nantes.


Kate co-produced Sound Source series for spnm with Ed McKeon at Kings Place and was founder/producer for Music and The Mind concert series at the IOP. She was producer for Music Orbit (Brunel University 03-13) with composer Colin Riley, an artist led network providing a platform for experimenting composers and performers at venues including The Forge, Vibe Bar, Kings Place, ICA and Shoreditch Town Hall.


Broadcasts have included BBC 2, BBC Radio 3’s In Tune and Late Junction, BBC Radio 4, Resonance fm, Icelandic National Radio. She has releases on Squeaky Kate (Triple Point and Quantulum), NMC Recordings, Metier and Summerfold Records (Skin and Wire Piano Circus with Bill Bruford).
