Erin Thomson

Erin Thomson (b. 2000) is a Scottish composer from the outskirts of Glasgow. She has recently graduated from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, studying composition under the tutelage of Dr. Linda Buckley she earned a first-class honours degree with an endorsement of Music Education with Distinction. Erin is currently studying her Masters in Music specialising in composition at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland under the tutelage of Dr Colin Broom.


Erin has collaborated frequently during her studies at RCS, both during her time as Brass department Composer in Residence, and since, for example a recent collaboration with soprano Stephanie Lamprea which has been performed in Scotland, and was internationally premiered in New York in September. Erin’s awards include first prize for the 2021 Walter and Dinah Wolfe Memorial Composition Award for her work ‘Linger to Sea’ for solo violin and reverb and she is the 2022 recipient of the Kimie Composition Prize, having composed a new work, “The Graceful Art of Walking on Stilts” for the Campus Trio with support from Live Music Now and the Kimie Trust. Erin was commissioned by Sound Scotland as part of their Soundcreators programme to compose a new work for performers Iain Crawford and Tom Hunter to be premiered at the 2021 Soundfestival and will be creating a new interdisciplinary work which will be performed in Aberdeen at both the 2022 Soundfestival and the DanceLive festival this October. Erin’s proudest achievement to date is her orchestral piece “Pentimentum” which was premiered by the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Martin Brabbins in the City Halls in Glasgow.
