Maverick opera producer, creator of radioplays of vivid imagination, songwriter, sound-collagist, and musical theorist, over a fifteen year career Dominic Robertson has carved out a unique place in the cultural landscape.
With a body of work exceeding 300 hours in almost every imaginable medium related to music he has consistently experimented with form across opera, radioplays, songwriting, installations, television, electronic music, and all kinds of collage. Selections of his visual work were recently published in the Content series of artist's books, under the title "Cold Collation".
Working under the pseudonym Ergo Phizmiz (a name which has now been put to bed) his productions have variously delighted, amused, shocked and perplexed audiences the world over.
He has collaborated with a diverse range of some of the world's most inventive artists including R. Stevie Moore, Lukas Simonis, Peter Fengler, Vicki Bennett, Christian Marclay, Patrick Sims, Pete Um, Margita Zalite, Felix Kubin, Thea Martin, Bill Bankes-Jones, Freddie Wake-Walker, Joel Cahen, and Frankie Boyle.
Productions by D.W. Robertson across media have been presented at institutions including BBC Radio 3, BBC Radio 6 Music, Tate Modern, the Royal Festival Hall, WDR, Bayerischer Rundfunk, Deutschlandradiokultur, VPRO, WFMU, Resonance FM, Geneva School of Art, Tilburg School of Art, Glasgow School of Art, Soundart Radio, Tete-a-Tete: The Opera Festival, Arcola's Grimeborn Festival, DePlayer, Worm, Rough Trade, Serralves Museum, Cafe Oto, and Whitechapel Gallery.
He is currently working on an electronic opera about St Joan transported to Guantanamo Bay.
