We’ve recently launched a crowdfunding project on sponsume to help raise funds towards the production of Joe Stollery’s small-scale opera The Maiden Stone! The opera is based on Aberdeenshire legend of the Maiden Stone and will take place on location on Bennachie on 5th and 6th September 2014. The story has it that a stranger (the Devil) disguised as a man (Dirk) asks for the hand of a maiden (Marn) in marriage. The maiden challenges the stranger to build a path to the top of Bennachie before she finishes baking a batch of bannocks... who will win?
The work will form part of a year of celebration of the 40th Anniversary of the Baillies of Bennachie and is being promoted by sound festival.
