New Approaches to Traditional Music Residency

img_0590-2

Aberdeen-based instrumentalist/composer Ross Whyte and Glasgow-based folk singer/guitarist/composer Alasdair Roberts collaborate musically for the first time in a series of residencies in Braemar.

They will take the opportunity of four separate periods throughout 2014, spent in the Braemar/Cairngorm Park area to explore the history, landscape, folklore and musical heritage of that location, researches which will inform the musical work which they will create together.

Building on Ross’s practice in the field of electroacoustic composition as well as on Alasdair’s interest in the folk song culture of Scotland in general, the residency will provide an opportunity for both artists to broaden their own musical ranges in the creation of work which explores and engages with notions of tradition in a fresh, exploratory manner.

The residencies will culminate in a performance during this year’s sound Festival.
