Sound Festival 2012

19 October - 18 November

Since its creation in 2005, sound has run seven successful festivals in collaboration with a network of around 30 local and national partner organisations. It has consolidated its position as Scotland’s leading festival of new music, recognised throughout the UK for both the quality of its music and the unusual way it is organised. The 2012 festival had an operatic theme at its centre, looking at how the boundaries of opera can be pushed musically. The operas showcased were staged in a urban flat, a lighthouse, a bothy, around a desk, in a pub…

sound 2012 commissioned ten new works from composers Gareth Williams, Pippa Murphy, John Harris, Gordon MacPherson, Paul Mealor, Robert Saxton, pj moore, Oliver Searle, Stephen Montague and Claudia Molitor; performances by artists including Red Note Ensemble, Rolf Hind, NYCOS and NYOS, Scottish Opera, Svara Kanti, pj moore…; and partnerships with Cryptic, Scottish Opera and HCMF amongst others.
