Festival 2014 blog: Fabiana Galante, composer and musician from Argentina

I arrived in Scotland two weeks ago. One of the projects I have been working on is called  "A la pipeta !", (a popular language expression in Argentina that means " surprising!") a contemporary approach to traditional instruments for pipers, soprano sax with electronics and electroacoustic music.  This piece  has been collaboratively created with electroacoustic music composer Pete Stollery form Scotland and soprano sax player Luis Conde from Argentina. Also the work implies the participation of  a very nice group of students from Banff's School and prerecorded "murga" style percussion played by Argentinian finest expert Zelmar Garín. "Murga", one of the main Rio de la Plata  music styles fuses with pipes creating a "sound bridge" between Argentina and Scotland.

The process has been done through four workshops with Banff School's pipers and drummers , special participation of piper Steve Brown + Pete Stollery and Luis Conde all working as a team.

The outcomes of this project can be seen/heard on Saturday 25th at 3pm on the top deck of the St Nicholas Centre (by the band stand) in Aberdeen.

I've also been rehearsing with Luis for our piano and woodwind instruments concert on 23rd October. We shall be premiering a nicely crafted programe of both traditional and recently composed tangos. The duo is called Duquesa (a slang expression for "two").

Straight after "Duquesa's"  concert, there will be a rehearsal for A la pipeta ! and then in to another rehearsal with contemporary tango quartet "Fulgor al bies" will be part of my activities for  25th  October concerts.

A must go !

Have a listen to Luis and I in rehearsal on our soundcloud!
