Quatuor Bozzini joins Aberdeen’s own new music ensemble Any Enemy for a rare performance of James Tenney’s In a Large Open Space in the resonant surroundings of St Andrew’s Cathedral.
Rather than following a traditional score, the piece gives performers a set of simple instructions, allowing each performance to unfold differently. Musicians enter at their own pace, playing long, sustained tones that overlap, shift and resonate through the space, gradually creating an ever-changing texture of sound.
Audiences are invited to move freely around the Cathedral, experiencing the music from different perspectives as it interacts with the building’s architecture and acoustics. As performers, audience, music and space come together, In a Large Open Space creates an opportunity for deep, attentive listening and a fitting opening to Quatuor Bozzini’s Aberdeen residency alongside local musicians.

Ticket Information
£14 Standard /£10 (senior citizens)/£6 (jobseekers, full time students, disabled people)/Free (under 18, essential companions), and are inclusive of fees.
There is also an option to Pay What You Can (PWYC), so that no one is excluded because of their financial circumstances.
You can thus choose to pay less than the recommended ticket prices if you can’t afford them. You can also choose to pay more, helping to support our activities commissioning new work and supporting local musicians and young people.
