Richard Ingham has had an extensive career as a performer, composer and educator. He has given solo saxophone recitals and chamber concerts throughout the UK, and in the USA, Canada, China, Japan, Thailand, India, Poland, Italy, Spain, Finland, France, Ireland, Slovenia and Latvia, working with pianists Alan Cuckston, Mary McCarthy, Scott Mitchell, Richard Michael, Sally Beamish, Fraser Burke.
Richard has written many works, including Music for the Book of Deer, a twelve movement suite celebrating the astonishing 10th century portable gospel book from Aberdeenshire. Performed by Strangeness & Charm, in 2013 it was also part of the Made in Scotland Showcase. His most recent work is a set of three saxophone pieces celebrating Adolphe Sax's bicentenary: William Meikle of Strathaven; Adolphe Sax, His Jig; The Store of Sonic Toys. Other notable works are Robinson for two narrators, two jazz soloists and jazz orchestra, Nature Morte au Panier for solo viola, and Rhynie Man for solo French horn, Through a Landscape and Walking the Cowgate for saxophone quartet.
Richard studied music at the University of York, specialising in clarinet and contemporary music, and also later at Leeds Metropolitan University and the University of Leeds, both in aspects of music technology. A brief but inspirational period was spent at Bloomington University, Indiana, studying saxophone with Eugene Rousseau. As an educator himself, Richard teaches saxophone (classical and jazz), chamber music performance, jazz performance, and history of 20th century music.
