A curated evening of spatial composition and acousmatic presence.
What the Air Remembers invites listeners into an environment where sound seeks to tell stories.
_VOID Nomadic Gallery will install a multi-channel sound system in the Dissection Room, creating a field of sonic diffusion for artists to experiment with. elseFly, Cindy Islam, and Yoga Fanzine will each present live compositions, conceived specifically for this format.
The performances revolve around the idea of sonic traces – sounds that murmur, dissolve, and shift around the listener. Each artist approaches this theme through a unique lens:

Yoga Fanzine
A sonic delineation of three dimensions, where residual traces, echoes, and reverberations shift listening perspective.
A simple melodic theme or sound source is performed first in real time, then repeated and developed through feedback loops and electronic processing. Spatialised elements combine with live sound to create movement and alter the perception of time.
As the listening ‘space’ evolves, audience attention shifts between the physical performance space and the projected acousmatic space. This oscillation between past and present acoustic events informs the performance.

Cindy Islam
An exploration of sounding body-memory and voicing language as mechanisms to move air and shift space. Layered, looped frequencies — combined with Cindy’s mother tongue, Arabic — alter the vibration within the room, sonically rendering the unseen resonances that bind personal and collective experience. Using synthesised sound and Arabic prayers, the performance positions sound-making not merely as aesthetic practice, but as an open invitation to engage with the intimate and unifying aspects of belief, culture, and perception.

elseFly
A multichannel study of the human voice and its components, exploring how meaning forms through symbolic language and prosody.
Drawing on an archive of recorded shock-jockey talk show hosts, elseFly surveys the linguistic methods they use to project authority and certainty, reframing these vocal traces in a new sonic environment.
Tickets are available from the 9th September 2025.
