The day will include a roundtable, a deep dive into works by James Weeks and Claudia Molitor, and an interactive workshop with pieces by Stephen Chase and Pauline Oliveros, including an opportunity to share your own work.

10.30–11.30am | Roundtable: Listening Join composer Pete Stollery for a thought-provoking roundtable exploring what it means to listen.
Composers Claudia Molitor, Maja Zeco, James Weeks and Suk-Jun Kim will discuss listening as a creative, social and environmental practice, offering different perspectives on how sound shapes the way we experience and engage with the world around us.
11.45am–12.45pm | Composers’ Day Introduction: Towards a Deep(er) Listening Practice in Composition
An introduction to the themes of the day, exploring approaches to listening within composition through the work of Claudia Molitor and James Weeks. The session will also include a visit to Claudia Molitor’s installation, Silent Seas.
12.45–1.45pm | Lunch Break and Red Note Ensemble Spotlight Gig
Ruth Morley (alto flute) and Tom Hunter (percussion) perform new works by emerging Scotland-based composers Gemma Docherty, Robert Brady, Jess Blinkhorn, Eldon Bradfield, Flynn Butler Fraser and Edo Hannah Morrison.
The works have been developed through a three-month composer development opportunity with Red Note Ensemble.
1.45–3.00pm | Experimental Listening Session and Workshop Explore participatory works by Stephen Chase and Pauline Oliveros through an experimental listening session and workshop, followed by an opportunity for participants to share and discuss their own work.
3.00–3.30pm | Reflection and Wrap-up
A final opportunity to reflect on the day and consider: How can I use what I’ve discovered today in my own composition practice?
