Join Katherine Wren of Nordic Viola and composers Pete and Joe Stollery for the launch of their brand-new album of music for viola and electronics, On A Wing and A Prayer - Reflections on Deeside's Changing Habitat.
There will be an opportunity to meet with the musicians, listen to some of the music from the album and to ask questions about the project as well as to buy the album, which will be released on Bandcamp and all major streaming platforms on 6th February.
Set in Glen Quoich in the Cairngorm Mountains, the music reflects on the River Dee, its woodlands and its wildlife, as it progresses from the still, frozen landscape experienced by the musicians in January 2024 to the violent floods of the Muckle Spates of 1829 and 2015.
The album also includes -the new forest -by Scottish-Icelander Charles Ross, which was specially commissioned for the project and Bonnie Glen Quoich by Deeside fiddler, Paul Anderson.
This recording is generously supported by the Vaughan Williams Foundation and the Hope Scott Trust.
The music was created with support from Creative Scotland and the Hinrichsen Foundation.
Nordic Viola is grateful to sound for supporting this launch event.
