Performers will include Alison Bell, Alan Carr and Rachel Groves on lever harps, with special guests to be announced.

Programme to include:
Snorri Sigfús Birgisson, Nimble Nellie, meditation on an Icelandic Folk Song
Gillian Fleetwood, The Sounding Board (world premiere)
Rachel Groves, Coracle (world premiere)
Ian Sumner, Duet for Bassoon (or Cor Anglais) and Harp (world premiere performance for bassoon and harp)

The performance will also include short pieces by composers Fodé Lassana Diabaté from Mali and Wu Man from China/USA. These are taken from the Fifty for the Future project where The Kronos Quartet commissioned fifty works for string quartet over five years, with scores and performances made freely available on the internet.

Working with sound, the Aberdeen Harp Project is an initiative to commission new contemporary music for lever harp. The pieces are pitched at intermediate standard, and are intended to stretch players and introduce new techniques and contexts.

We hope to inspire others to become involved in commissioning new music. All proceeds from this concert will be used to commission a new work from a leading young Scottish harp player/composer, and all who attend will be helping to bring more new music into the world.
