Jeremy Huw Williams
Welsh baritone Jeremy Huw Williams studied at St John’s College, Cambridge, at the National Opera Studio, and with April Cantelo. He made his debut with Welsh National Opera as Guglielmo in Cosi Fan Tutte. Since then he has appeared in over fifty operatic roles. He has given performances at major venues in North and South America, Australia, Hong Kong, and most European countries.
He is renowned as a fine exponent of contemporary music, having commissioned much new music and given premières of works by Alun Hoddinott, William Mathias, John Tavener, Martin Butler, John Metcalf, Julian Phillips, Edward Dudley Hughes, Ian Wilson, Richard Causton, Edward Rushton and Huw Watkins. Future plans include Pangloss (Candide) with the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra and the London Symphony Orchestra conduted by Kristjan Järvi.
Recent highlights include many recordings for the BBC, Chou En Lai (Nixon in China) for the Greek National Opera, and concerts and recitals throughout the UK and Europe, Choregos/Jack Ketch (Punch and Judy) at the Royal Opera House (Linbury Studio) and the world première of Michael Berkeley (For You) on tour with Music Theatre Wales, and swapped roles to sing the title role in Nixon in China in Verona, In concert he performed Carmina Burana with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Faure’s La bonne Chanson with the English Chamber Orchestra and Dutilleux’ Sonnets de Jean Cassou with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales.
