Stephen Deazley

Stephen Deazley is an Irish born composer and educationalist, based in Scotland. He is widely acknowledged as a champion of music and music education for children and young people.  Recent projects include a multi-media work for Glasgow, Unesco City of Music, an acclaimed youth opera for Welsh National Opera with librettist Michael Symmons Roberts, a youth opera (with Martin Riley) for Scottish Opera Dr Ferret’s Bad Medicine Roadshow. He has created works for circus, theatre, multi-media and concerts and produced innovative outreach projects with many different communities across the UK. He is Founder and Artistic Director of Love Music Festival, an international music festival for children, and Director of the eclectic Scottish based performance group Music at the Brewhouse.

Upcoming highlights includes an opening fanfare to launch Music For Youth’s 2012 festival, a full length dance score to open Dance Live 2012 in Aberdeen, and a song cycle for children premiering at St.Magnus International Festival in June. He is a former recipient of a British Academy of Composers Award for his work in education.
