Richard Bailey
Richard Bailey graduated from the University of Aberdeen in 2010 before pursuing postgraduate studies at Birmingham Conservatoire, where he was awarded a scholarship to study piano performance under Prof. Malcolm Wilson. While at Aberdeen, he studied piano with Drew Tulloch, was awarded the Carlaw Prize for Piano Accompaniment, and was a finalist in the Ogston Music Prize. In addition, he was a Tom Johnston Scholar at the North East of Scotland Music School where he studied with Prof. Nigel Clayton. At Birmingham he was a finalist in both the Donohoe Prize and the Reginald Vincent Lieder Competition.
Richard has worked as an accompanist at the North East of Scotland Music School and regularly performs with visiting artists in the Aberdeen International Youth Festival. He has accompanied prize winners in national competitions in Edinburgh and London and has performed at masterclasses for Peter Donohoe, Martin Jones, Mikhail Kazakevich, Roman Rudnytsky, Ruth Waterman, Florian Uhlig and Iwan Llewelyn Jones.
Richard’s repertoire is wide ranging and he includes much new music in his recital programmes, he recently performed a world premiere at the Scottish Parliament by the renowned composer, Paul Mealor. Richard teaches at the University of Aberdeen as well as privately, and he is in demand as concerto soloist, recitalist and chamber musician.
