Emily White
Emily White studied trombone at The Royal Academy of Music, Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and violin at Trinity College of Music, London. She won the Ludwig Lebell Award in 2006 and the Ella Kidney Early Music Prize 2007. Emily is a member of English Cornette and Sackbut Ensemble (ECSE) who recently collaborated with I Fagiolini to record ‘ Striggio Mass in 40 Parts’ This disc won the 2011 Gramophone Early Music Award and the Diapason d’Or de l’Annee.Emily is also a member The Isla Quartet, a string quartet formed during her time as Musician in Residence Deveron Arts, Huntly. Their first disc ‘Center of Huntly’ premiered the works of the Scottish composer Ronald Center.’ During that time she began her studies into traditional Scottish fiddle – learning from Pam Johnston, Morag Johnston and Paul Anderson.
Emily has appeared on television playing new with The Sixteen in their BBC series Sacred Music, on live BBC Radio 3 in ‘In Tune’ with her own groups and other ensembles, and the BBC Proms series. She freelances with ensembles such as The Academy of Ancient Music, The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment English National Ballet, His Majesties Sagbuts and Cornettes, The Academy of St Martin in the Fields, BBC National Orchestra of Wales and Ex Cathedra. Emily has worked frequently at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre since 1997 – 2012. With them she has toured Seoul, Tokyo, Barbados and Chicago and was musical director of the 2008 Much Ado About Nothing. She is playing in the 2012/2013 production of Twelfth Night.
She has played with The Tiger Lilies, Paul Weller and appeared playing the trombone on Eastenders .
Emily has recently been coaching at at The Royal Academy of Music, St Mary’s Music School, Birmingham Conservatoire and Dartington International Summer School. She is Co-Director of the Huntly Summer School.
