Colin Brockie
Originally from Ellon in Aberdeenshire, Colin first started singing and acting at Haddo House, being involved both on and off stage with the Children’s Theatre, Youth Theatre and the Choral and Operatic Society.
During his time at Gray’s School of Art, he continued his participation in many shows including Oklahoma (Jud) and Crazy For You (Director) with Treading The Boards, HMS Pinafore (Assistant Director), The Sorcerer (Director) and Yeomen of the Guard (Sgt Meryll) with the University of Aberdeen Gilbert and Sullivan Society, Invasion of the Doric Snatchers (Production Assistant) and Date Expectations in His Majesties Theatre for Aberdeen Student Charities, Hot Mikado (Pooh-Bah) with AVE Productions, Oklahoma (Curly) with Meldrum Musical Society, Zombie Prom (Joey), a 24 hour musical Anything Goes (Lord Evelyn Oakleigh) with Just Cause Theatre.
Colin was a member of the National Youth Choir of Scotland (NYCoS) for 11 years, including their tours to Sweden (2001), Chicago (2004), Hungary (2007) and Germany (2010). He also sang with the choir in London’s Albert Hall as part of the Proms season as well as several Last Night Proms in the Park concerts.
Whilst gaining a BA Hons in Design and Craft from Gray’s, Colin continued to receive his singing lessons at the North East of Scotland Music School (NESMS), being taught by Ruth Black, Alan Watt and Dr Raimund Herincx, as well as being one of the school’s Assistant Administrators.
Having completed a Masters in Solo Performance course at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, Colin continued his studies there with Stuart MacIntyre with a one year Postgraduate Diploma. Colin appeared in the RNCM’s productions of La Belle Helene (Agamemnon), La Clemenza di Tito (Pubilo – cover), Carmen (Zuniga – cover), Albert Herring (Superintendant Budd) and with Manchester Camerata, Belshazzer (Chorus). He also performed in RNCM opera excerpts of Pelleas et Melisande (Arkel), Falstaff (Pistola), L’Amore Dei Tre Re (Archibaldo), L’incoronazione di Poppea (Seneca) and Faust (Mephistopheles). Colin’s RNCM studies were generously supported by the John Connell Award, the Caird Trust, Cross Trust and the Scottish International Educational Trust.
Upon leaving the RNCM, Colin performed in the choruses of Buxton Festival Opera (Jephtha, Maiden in the Tower, Kaschei the Immortal and Intermezzo as Legal Counsellor) and in the 61st Wexford Festival (L’arlesiana and Le Roi Malgré Lui as Un Soldat). He has also appeared in the Glyndebourne chorus for the productions of Falstaff, Don Pasquale and Billy Budd.
