Events 2013

Welcome to the 2013 sound festival!

Shortlisted in 2012 for an RPS Music Award, the 2013 sound festival brings you a varied programme of some of the best new music from across the UK and the world. We open the festival with an exciting new work Framed Against The Sky which members of the local community have been helping ‘outlandish’ composer Brian Irvine and ‘roofer by day poet by night’ Billy Letford create over the past few months.

Between 24-27 Oct we will be exploring the colourful world of microtonal music with the University of Aberdeen. This weekend features workshops and performances of microtonal works with new commissions from Christopher Fox and Geoff Palmer, and performances by the Edinburgh Quartet, Robin Michael and Ensemble Al-Kindi & the Whirling Dervishes of Damascus.

Join us at MUSA for our late night soundsessions this weekend as well where you can relax, have a drink and listen to something a bit different.

This year we also look at how sound and image interact and have some incredible audio/ visual treats for you to feast your ears and eyes upon including Stephen Deazley’s ManHigh, Joby Burgess’ Powerplant, and a kaleidoscopic tapestry of sound from Leafcutter John!

We invite you to immerse your senses and imaginations and join us on yet another ‘magical mystery tour’ through the world of new music!
