During sound, the University of Aberdeen, in association with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, will be hosting the fourth biennial University of Aberdeen Music Prize for composers in November 2011, during a weekend of associated events.
The University of Aberdeen Music Prize is an exciting competition for aspiring new composers from around the world. This year composers have been invited to submit new works for any combination of Trumpet and String Quartet of between 5 to 10 minutes duration. Five works will be selected from entries and performed by members of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra in a workshop session led by the distinguished composer Julian Anderson, who will be featured in this year’s composer portrait.
After the workshop session, one composer will be offered the University of Aberdeen Music Prize – A £5,000 commission to compose work for the BBC Symphony Orchestra in 2012 and broadcast on Radio 3.
