Recycled Grieg fragments and contemporary jazz provide the focus for this programme, given by the ever eclectic Mr McFall’s Chamber. Scottish composer, James Clapperton has based his new work (world premiere) on an unfinished piano quintet movement by Grieg, combining Norwegian folk elements with “a series of musical memory traces based upon certain rhythmic and harmonic cells taken from the Grieg.” A second world premiere will be by contemporary Norwegian composer and percussionist Thomas Strønen, for strings with live electronics. Pure Grieg, for piano and strings, completes the set.
