Orchestra's ship-shape birthday performance!

Aberdeen's own symphony orchestra celebrated their 20th anniversary with a cracking programme.
First off was a contemporary work by John Hearne, the Overture Into Uncharted Seas. There were plenty of maritime undertones and you could imagine sailing through stormy waters at times, but the well-drilled orchestra was never out of its depth. Guest soloist Rohan de Saram then gave a masterly performance of Elgar's beautiful Cello Concerto. The second half belonged to the orchestra, who tackled Tchaikovsky's Fourth Symphony with gusto. Woodwind and brass sections were excellent, but the strings stole the show.
