sound aims to make contemporary music more accessible to audiences of all ages and backgrounds by presenting an eclectic but very broad range of contemporary music - classical, traditional, popular, jazz, experimental - through a wide range of events including concerts, talks, electroacoustic installations, and workshops. sound performances attracted audiences of 2,700 and involved over 700 musicians and students
in workshops, talks and performances from scratch in 36 performances in 21 venues. There were 9 workshops, masterclasses and talks, and 14 schools workshops.
Highlights
- sound commissioned or co-commissioned premieres: Work for trumpet & electronics by Pete Stollery, premiered in the Institute of Medical Science.
- Community events and workshop days: Score! composers workshop day co-organised with the spnm and the Scottish
Ensemble; "A Day with Graham Fitkin" rehearsing and giving the world premiere of Fitkin's The
Ring Cycle for massed ensembles; Local amateur and semi-professional musicians joining
Rohan de Saram to rehearse and perform Xenakis's Epicycles.
