Pippa Murphy is a freelance composer living in Edinburgh. She works with artists, dancers, writers and performers in the UK and abroad, and has been commissioned by the Scottish Arts Council, the Paragon Ensemble, PRS and Contemporary Music For Amateurs (COMA). She has composed for performances, radio broadcasts, theatre shows and sound diffusions in the UK and Europe. Recent projects include: Music For BBC Radio 4 afternoon play, The Room; Nutshell’s Crestfal’; Standing Wave – Delia Derbyshire in the 1960’s; music for Gilt a 7:84 Theatre Company production; guest resident composer at ZKM, Zentrum für Kunst und Medientechnologie, Karlsruhe. She has devised and facilitated many community education projects, including composition workshops for university students and professional artists at the Fadj International Film & Theatre Festival in Iran, and with asylum seekers in Sight Hill, Glasgow, and primary school children in ‘Sonic Postcards’. She completed her BMus, MA and PhD at Birmingham University. She is the Vice-Chair of Sonic Arts Network.
