Aberdeenshire Council provides a comprehensive music centre service, designed to meet the needs of pupils of all ages, from very young to advanced players. Participating in music centre groups enhances and inspires the musical and social development of young musicians and complements their regular instrumental tuition. Junior groups meet on Saturday mornings in Stonehaven, Inverurie and Fraserburgh, and on Wednesday afternoons in Banchory. Senior groups meet on Tuesdays and Fridays after school in Westhill and Mintlaw. The South/Central Aberdeenshire Music Centre Youth Orchestra is one of the senior groups, and involves 70 young people.
