off-season events: New Words / New Sounds

sound news item posted 13 April 2009

In collaboration with Wordfringe 2009, sound presents a series of events throughout May that explore the different relationships between words and music.

These events include the Pennan premiere of Richard Ingham's From Pennan to Penang and the world premiere of Fredrik Sixten's Requiem in a new English version by John Hearne.

Composer and sound artist Miriama Young is joined by poet Catherine Bowman, visiting from the States, for a double CD launch, and pianist Susanne Olbrich joins storyteller Margot Henderson for an evening that may include tango and Zen poetry.

Philip Knight's Prometheus: A River Stained with Iron combines poetry with physical theatre and the experimental music of Mike Gosling; Knotbrook Taylor and David Liddell dissect modern life through contemporary words and manufactured sounds; and in P-KOK, Spring Tides Poetry Group and friends present a combination of multilingual poetry with music, film and digital art.

Finally in this strand, a set by John Mackie and Michael Moar's poetry-and-guitar duo Infinite Equation #2 concludes an event that also features poets Jen Hadfield and Keith Armstrong.

Further details can be found on our off-season events page.
