Joan Cumming
Joan Cumming is a composer and performer from Elgin. Joan graduated from the University of Aberdeen with a 2:1 Honours Music degree in July 2010, studying Performance with Joseph Long (piano), Jean Webster (voice) and Composition with Paul Mealor. Joan is currently studying the Masters degree researching Norweigan romanser and vocal composition supervised by Jonathon Stephens and Paul Mealor.
Joan’s work has been premièred across Aberdeen. In March 2010, her première of Two Songs for High Voice and Harp, in St. Andrew’s Cathedral was well received, as was the March 2011 première Five Songs by Thomas Hardy. In June 2011, Let Not Your Heart Be Troubled (SATB divisi) was premiered by Caelestis Choir in Queen’s Cross Church, Aberdeen. Future projects include a work for solo left-hand piano, settings of Norweigan petry for voice and flute and a performance of Five Songs by Thomas Hardy by Welsh baritone, Jeremy Huw Williams.
