John Tavener's Protecting Veil was written in 1987 for Stephen Isserlis, who premiered the work at a BBC Promenade Concert two years later. Geoff Palmer and George Chittenden play the work in a new version for cello and organ in the glorious acoustic of St Andrew's Cathedral.
