BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra with Stewart Goodyear, piano and Andrew Litton, conductor.

Programme:

  • Jun Lee - Marea
(University of Aberdeen music prize winner)
  • Gershwin - Piano Concerto in F
  • Tchaikovsky - Symphony No.4

Distinguished American conductor Andrew Litton makes a welcome return to the BBC SSO, bringing with him Gershwin's racy piano concerto - an ideal vehicle for the prodigiously gifted young Canadian pianist Stewart Goodyear, at 27 already a regular soloist with the major North American orchestras. Once again, the University of Aberdeen's Music Prize has found an extremely talented winner from the Far East, and the commission that is part of the prize (and the university's valuable collaboration with the BBC SSO) is heard here for the first time. Andrew Litton's special affinity with Russian music promises a powerful and memorable interpretation of Tchaikovsky's most popular symphony.
