CLAIRE SINGER

Claire Singer was born in Inverness in 1983 and soon after moved to Aberdeenshire. Her musical education began at the age of nine when she started playing 'cello and piano. Having explored classical and rock/pop performance while at school she then moved to London in 2002 to study a Bachelor of Music at Goldsmiths College, University of London, specialising in 'cello performance and electroacoustic composition. After graduating in 2005 she prolonged her studies at Goldsmiths and is currently in the final year of her Masters degree in electroacoustic composition.

Throughout her undergraduate degree she wrote a collection of works, some strictly studio based and others including the interaction of live electronics. In 2005 her work The Final Journey written for the New Noise ensemble (oboe, percussion, live electronics and tape) was selected for the SPNM Promoting New Music concert in London.

While studying her masters she is currently involved in many new projects including the sound design and music for a short film and a collaborative project with a London dance conservatoire.

Alongside Claire's compositional work she is also involved in 'cello and electronic improvisational work as well as working with various contemporary music groups in London, most recently performing with Marina Rosenfeld's Sheer Frost Orchestra at the Tate Modern London and working with the Her noise project on Sonic Youth artist Kim Gordon's Reverse Karaoke at the South London Gallery.

Claire has recently been selected for the Online Noise Festival 2006.
