You Are Wolf

  • Artist

You Are Wolf (aka Kerry Andrew) explores English and American folk, fusing source material with leftfield pop and contemporary classical stylings, gentle touches of electronica and spoken word, all melded with an array of wild vocal techniques.

Her debut album, ‘Hawk to the Hunting Gone’ (released May 2014, Stone Tape) explores British birds and folklore. Her first EP ‘Hunting Little Songs’ was released in 2011.

She is currently working on a new set of freshwater-themed songs with multi-instrumentalist Sam Hall and percussionist Pete Ashwell, to be released as a second album in 2017.

You Are Wolf has been played on BBC 6Music by Tom Robinson, Gideon Coe and Stuart Maconie, BBC Radio 3’s Late Junction and New York’s premier indie radio station WFUV. She is a regular on Radio 3’s The Verb and performed her debut short story with music on BBC Radio 4’s Stories From Songwriters series. She was an EDFSS/The Magpie’s Nest Folk Rising artist, and has played at The Great Escape, Leigh Folk Festival, Union Chapel, Cambridge Folk Festival and the Queen Elizabeth Hall. Kerry visited China for five weeks in 2016 as a British Council Musician in Residence, touring as You Are Wolf and creating new rock/traditional songs based on foxes in folklore. As a writer, her work has a strong folklore thread; her debut novel, Swansong, is published by Jonathan Cape in January 2018.

Elsewhere, as Kerry Andrew, she is a composer of experimental vocal music and choral music and the winner of three British Composer Awards. She is a performer with adventurous a cappella trio, juice, punky jazz crew DOLLYman and folkjazz sextet Metamorphic.
